Why I chose print?

The reason that I chose to do a print project is bacuse i believe that I could create a magazine where i would be able to put myself into it. I feel that it would have been the most challenging out of both print and film. Another reason why I have decided to do print is beacuse I would not have known how to have used the software and I feel that it would be a good skill to have in later life.

I am also looking forward to take my own pictures and editing them. as well as creating my own format and layout of the magazine.

A history of Indie

INDIE - - - The indie rock scene started in the 1960's, originating in great britain and across the atantic in  america. The Velvet Underground (band) have been branded the founders of the indie scene, starting off the anti - authority move in america. Their music and lyrics challenged the convention of societys standards at the time by creating and bringing nihilistic music about the world, as well as making it a way of life. People started to think for them selves and break traditionl society walls. It became a way of life that started to creep out into music, singing about things that mattered and what needed to be brought to peoples attention.  Back then the name for indie sounds would have been alternative rock. This has been associated with the beach boys fist album 'pet sounds'.

In britain however acts such as the Beetles and The Smiths were breaking into the music buisness and breakin society down and briniging communities closer together by dispersing there music.  In the 1990's alternative rock became more frequent in the form of punk and grunge, with bands such as Narvina and Alice in Chaines making there first apearance. Popular bands such as Good Charlotte and Green Day became very popular with early - late teens, and become very populer to the anti authority/experamentalis/ creatives and rebels, who the mian consumers of this type of music.

As we reach the 00's indie yet again branched off to re intoduce the emo scene, intoducing new fashion and new music but as we reached the end of the 00's indie music is starting to create yet again new sounds but still carrying on the same new way of life. The Artic Monkys brought back the origionality of the Beetles and many different acts followed. eg, florence and the machine, Marina and the Diomands, The Kooks, Mumford and Sond, Anya Marina and many more well established artists.

Indie had also collaberated music and fashion together. Meaning that this type of music has influenced EVERYONE's day to day lifestyle.

One of the main record labes that is signing indie artist at the moment are Island Records.

Evaluation

stages of development - contents

from left to right

Image 1

starting off i made the contents into a canon formation. Smaller - bigger. This is different to normal contents pages which makes it unique.

Image 2

in image two i created another black shape with a blue line to match itup to the front cover. carrying on the theme is a major code in a magazine. I then added a paint splat to make the contents page look edgy and interesting.

Image 3

In image three i started to create the picture par, which has many pictures of the acts that are included in the magazine. i have also started inserting the compition advertisement.

Image 4

In image four i have included the date and month of the issue and have started to upload the pictures.

Image 5

In the image below all of contents is my final product. I have included the magazine title again, this is so that the magazine is still advertising itself. the month of the issue and another blue paint splat. the reason that the paint splat is yet again to carry on the theme of the magazine. the contet of the magazine is always in the contents page of the page. this means that the reader knows what will be in the magazine by looking in the contents.

step by step - double page spread

Double page spread

(IMAGES AS SEEN ABOVE)
Image 1

IN the first image i created a the base of my magazine. I created the black layer by dragging the line tool across the page and filling it in black. Once the image had been created i chose the picture that would be the for front of the double page spread. Once i had chosen it then i then made the black ;ayer transparent and dragged the picture behind it. Once i had done this the colour and the black blended together to make the dull green image you see on the Print screen.

Image 2

I then added the rest f the images onto the double page spread. These images were then altered to become black and white. I chose to do this because it gave the double page spread the indie/ rock theme i have been trying to create.

Image 3 - 4

I added the first set of quotes. The quotes are also in the magazine within the article content. This is so that the readers can see what some of the subject that the interviewer are talking about. This would hopefully provoke them to buy and read the article.

image 5

IN this image i have added the bands name that are the main focus of the article. This means that the audience know who the article is about. I used the same font that can be found at the front of the magazine. The audience will then be able to compare the bands with the format and the style  of the band.

Image 6

I the added the article that i would need to include in my double page spread. Again i also inserted a quote with in te text to spur the reader to carry on reading.

This is the final product of my double page spread.

stages of development - cover

Front cover

I used a variety of tools for the effect of my front cover as the production was in the process.
(IMAGES AS SEEN ABOVE)

Image 1

Firstly i chose the picture that i would use on my front cover. I then erased out the background to that it was clear white. I then left a shape at the top of the picture which i would then be able to drag over the magazine title for the logo.

Image 2

I inserted the magazine title name RAIDER onto the magazine. I also needed to erase the back ground for this, and make it transparent.
there were many names that i took into account for my magazine such as :

  • Music mayhem
  • Dirt
  • Raider
  • Raydar
I found that the original name that i was going to use 'music mayhem' had already been taken, and through asking friends raider was the most common awnser for the best name for my magazine.

Image 3

I inserted two black rectangles at both the top and the bottom of the page to make the magazine bolder ands stand out more.

Image 4

FrediesInstinct

IN most magazines they have there headlining bands name beneath there image and so i chose to do tis as-well.
The style of the writing is in a typewriting format, Classing the band as original and new but presented and old school style to it aswell.

Image 5

Once the artists name was on the magazine i felt that i couldn't see it as clearly as id like so i placed a backdrop behind it to make it stand out more clearly, although i still made the backdrop transparent enabeling the reader to stioll see all of the image clearly.

Image 6

To the right of the magazine i made it look like ink was running accros the cover. The reason i placed this there is because it looked plane. More colour needed to be present on the cover. The paint also represents artistic flare and creativity, a message that my audience should be attracted to.

Image 7

I inserted a barcode onto my main page. For retail purposes only, this is used to sell the product in stores.

image 8 - 9

I have places the article names and headlines on my magazine, this is the same in image 9

Image 10

This is my final product
